In preparing the draft Minister of Manpower Regulation on the Protection of Migrant Fishing Ship Crews, IOJI collaborated with SBMI and DFW to prepare a position paper entitled “The Urgency of Issuing the Minister of Manpower Regulation on the Protection of Migrant Fishing Ship Crews.” This position paper discusses the need for special regulations regarding the protection and placement of migrant fishing vessel crew. This position paper was submitted and discussed with the Ministry of Manpower in an FGD with the theme “Realizing Protection for Migrant AKPs Post Government Regulation Number 22 of 2022” in January 2024. The FGD resulted in recommendations for content that needed to be included in the derivative regulations of PP 22/2022, which were then outlined in the Draft Regulation of the Minister of Manpower, especially regarding the flow of the process for placing crew members on migrant fishing vessels.
