Draft Governor’s Regulations for the Central Java Provincial Government concerning Protection and Empowerment of Fisheries and Salt Business Actors, Training Curriculum, and Supporting the Implementation of Public Consultations on the Protection of Small Fishermen

Central Java is one of the provinces in Indonesia with the largest number of small-scale fishermen.

In an effort to protect and empower small fishermen, IOJI assisted the Central Java Government in drafting a Governor’s Regulation concerning the Protection and Empowerment of Fisheries and Salt Business Actors. This support is part of the scope of the 2023 Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between IOJI and Central Java Province.

IOJI facilitated six public consultations involving more than 500 small-scale fishermen and collaborated with academics and policy experts to provide recommendations for policy development, as well as supporting the “Jebol Ikan” (fishing boat licensing) initiative which facilitates direct licensing and insurance assistance to 3,700 fishermen in ten regions in Central Java Province.
